What is Search Engine promotion?

Search engine promotion or positioning involves techniques that bring your website to the attention of the search engines - search engine submission, such as Google and then advance your pages so that they appear at the top of the search engine results pages - search engine optimization- SEO.

You must create pages around keywords that your potential visitors are searching. Finding these keywords is known as keyword research and for this you will need to use keyword research tools.

Create new pages to cover important keywords. It is better to have single pages built around one or two keywords than one long page trying to cover many keywords.

Links between your pages must be carefully thought through. Use the correct anchor text to help visitors and search engines understand the significance of the link. "Click here" is meaningless. You need quality external links to benefit from this search engine optimisation technique as not all sites will be regarded highly in Google.

The quality and value of a backlink will depend on:

  • Page Relevance - does the content of the page where the backlink is located related to yours?
  • PageRank - a backlink from an authority web page with a high PageRank is more valuable than one from a new page with no PageRank.

Monitoring


Promotion of your website is ongoing. You need to review every aspect at least once each month.

You should check your page search engine rankings for at least your most important pages.

It may take two or three weeks for a new page or change in a page to be indexed by the search engines.

How can you tell when Google has indexed or updated a page?

1. Enter the URL of the page into the Google Search Box and click on "Search"

2. If your page has been indexed, it will appear on the results page - Click on "Cached"

The latest cached version of your page will appear and at the top, Google provides information including the date and time.

 

You will need to wait until your new page or alterations have been cached to see how your page has been ranked.
