Search Engine Submission - There are many tools but the best advice is to submit you website once only when it is ready and this can be done manually to only the leading engines

How Do I submit my Web site to the Search Engines

Although there are many hundreds of search engines, less than 25 are used by 95% of Web surfers. There is still much to be said for manually submitting. This involves going to a search engine such as Google, finding their form and completing it. To avoid some repetition it is worthwhile keeping some infomration such as the description of your site on a "Word" page and copy and paste (Control C and Control V) as appropriate.

There are a variety of Web search engine submission tools that may do some of this for you.

Examples are Addweb, Web Position Gold

IBP10 (Axandra) and

Submissionpro.

I recommend IBP 10 as it has some wonderful programs that I regularly use. It includes search engine submission software although this is not a program that is required more than once

Early Submission to the Search Engines

You should avoid submitting your Web site too early to the Web search engines and directories as this can be counter productive. If there are link problems or "page under construction" signs all around your site, the search engines are likely to give you a low rating as they regard this with the same seriousness as spamming. It may subsequently prove difficult to raise the status of your site for a considerable time.

You may see websites or spam email advertising that "they will undertake search engine submission for you - this is a  waste of time, effort and money. It may be true that there are thousands of search engines but the vast majority are virtually unused and provide no traffic.  Invariably these unscrupulous websites will ask you to  you to provide an e-mail address for submission and your "reward" will be that you will be bombarded by never ending spam. They will use automatic submission tools. Most search engines that are worth submitting to will detect these submission tools and block them.

How long does it take to get my site listed on the search engines?/font>

Each search engine has its own schedule for spidering/indexing and listing Web sites. Search engines do not guarantee inclusion from their free submissions and do not give a time line for inclusion, however most Web sites that are optimized to be "search engine ready" do get listed.  The major search engines are taking one to three month for inclusion.

How often should I submit my Web site to the Search Engines?

There is no advantage in repeatedly submitting to the search engines. Once a search engine has found your site it will send its spider to it at a rate dependent on how frequently you update the site and how often it finds links on other sites to yours.
