What is page relevance?

  1. Page relevance

(or reputation) is a measure of the topic of the linking page as it relates to the linked page. Let us give an example of a Web site about soccer. A link from a page about football boots would be seen as being more relevant than a page about dolphins. Search engines may check the relevance and link popularity of the linking page. There is also some evidence that if the linking page has a large number of outbound links their reputation is reduced. Essentially every page on the Internet has an equal right to make links but the more shares it issues in terms of links out then the less each link is valued.

  1. When your Web site is functioning you should seed reciprocal links with other We sites that are relevant to yours. You will also receive requests to exchange links from other Web sites.  The following questions should be considered before you make the link:-

    1.       Does the proposed link partner site contain relevant content?

    2.       Do they have  high quality pages. It is important that their links page be linking to relevant material only, and preferably to a fairly small number of sites - perhaps no more than 20. Check that the links are up to date.

    3.       Is there a direct link from their index page to their links page? Search engine spiders (and humans, too!) follow viewable HTML links through a site to find pages.

    4.       How will they link to your site? Be sure that they agree to link to your home page or to the most appropriate landing page on your site as designated by you. Additionally, it is preferable that the link to your site includes a keyword-rich description. You may wish to provide the linking site with your preferred text.

    5.       How popular is their site? A quick idea of their site popularity can be gathered by using the Alexa Traffic Rank and Google PageRank .
