A major factor in determining search engine position is PageRank. A new web page has a PageRank of zero and the results pages top keywords will have PageRanks of 5 or more. It follows that to begin with, you will need to focus on keywords that have less competition.

Google allows you to select your chosen country. This is ideal if you are interested in search engine rank optimization within a particular country such as the UK.

There is an option to save the results in a CSV (for excel) format.
Copy the keywords list into another columen and remove the [ and ] C.
Copy this column into Keywords Analyzer with the setting on "New Search" - "Manual" and with the setting "Get Results in Quotes"
Copy the Google Results column obtained from Keywords Analyzer onto your excel search sheet.
You can sort your data as you choose to reveal the niche keywords that have reasonable search volume and relatively little competition. When you first start a website / web page, it will have "0" PageRank and you should compete accordingly. In the above example, "cheap vacation packages" has a relatively low Google results competition but 27,100 searches per month could provide significant traffic to your website if your landing page is well structured from the on page search engine optimization point of view.
You should also seek to improve your PageRank by off page search engine optimization. The higher your PageRank, the higher your pages will appear on the search engine results pages and the more you can seek traffic for the more competitive keywords.
