What are the advantages and disadvantages of designing your own Web site?

    

Advantages:

  1. Designing a Web site is not difficult using the software packages that are available.

  2. Developing your own Web site is an enjoyable task/hobby.

  3. It is cheaper to develop your own Web site.

  4. If you have developed your own Web site, it will be easy for you to update whenever you need to.

  5. Essentially, you have all the control of the site that you can need.

  6. When you have an idea for your Web site or pages you do not need to explain it to a third party: You can implement it immediately.

  7. You can use word processing programs such as Word for Windows for simple small Web sites or web authoring programs - I would recommend Frontpage 2003

 

Disadvantages:

  1. It takes a little time to learn about Web page design.

  2. You may well get hooked and spend more time than you anticipated enhancing and promoting your own Web site.

  3. Your Web site may not look as classy as work undertaken by a professional (See links) although your Web site can take on an impressive appearance if you use a template.
